When Change Feels Uncomfortable

I don’t do well with change.

Maybe it’s the Baptist in me… maybe it’s just who I am. But right now, life feels like it’s shifting. We’re planning to move house, and everything feels a bit unsettled. My free time has shrunk, photography has taken a step back, and routines I rely on are being disrupted.

And if I’m honest — I don’t like it.

The Tension of Change

Change can be a strange thing.

Sometimes it’s good — bringing growth, opportunity, and new beginnings.
Other times it feels uncomfortable, uncertain, even unsettling.

This weekend I saw some classic cars. Beautiful machines — full of character, colour, and personality.

Modern cars are better in many ways. Safer. More reliable. More efficient.

But they’ve lost something.

The charm.
The individuality.
The joy.

And it made me think…

When Faith Becomes Familiar

Our faith can be like that too.

We can become comfortable with how things have always been. Traditions, routines, ways of doing things — they can feel safe and familiar.

And there’s nothing wrong with that.

But sometimes, if we’re not careful, we can become so attached to what’s familiar that we resist what God might be doing next.

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
Isaiah 43:19

God doesn’t change — but He often calls us into new seasons.

Growth Requires Movement

It’s easy to stay where things feel controlled.

To hold onto what we know.
To avoid stepping into uncertainty.

But growth rarely happens in comfort.

Sometimes God uses change to stretch us. To refocus us. To remind us that our security isn’t in routines, hobbies, or even where we live — but in Him.

Letting Go Without Losing What Matters

The goal isn’t to abandon everything old.

Just like classic cars, there’s beauty in tradition, in history, in what has shaped us.

But we need to hold those things with open hands.

Willing to move.
Willing to trust.
Willing to follow.

Even when it feels uncomfortable.

A Steady Foundation

In the middle of all the change — moving house, disrupted routines, less time for photography — one thing remains steady:

God does not change.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8

When everything else shifts, He is still constant.

A Short Prayer

Lord, I find change difficult. Help me trust You in seasons of uncertainty.
Give me the courage to follow where You lead, even when it feels uncomfortable.
Amen.
