This week’s image shows a long walkway stretching out toward a lighthouse. It draws the eye forward, inviting you to walk it — yet it’s gated. No access. A clear boundary telling you to stop.
Standing there, it’s easy to feel the frustration of distance. The destination is visible, but unreachable.
And that feeling isn’t unfamiliar.
When God Feels Out of Reach
There are seasons when God can feel distant.
When prayer feels blocked.
When faith feels restricted by barriers we don’t fully understand.
We might tell ourselves there are gates in the way — rules we haven’t kept, mistakes we’ve made, doubts we carry, or feelings of unworthiness that quietly whisper, “You can’t go any further.”
The path looks clear, but access feels denied.
The Barriers We Don’t See
Throughout Scripture, separation between God and humanity is described as something real — not imagined. Sin, shame, and fear all act as barriers.
“Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save… but your iniquities have separated you from your God.”
— Isaiah 59:1–2
Left to ourselves, the gate remains closed.
Jesus Removes the Barriers
But the gospel changes everything.
Through Jesus, the restrictions are removed. The barriers dismantled. The gate opened.
“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.”
— John 10:9
Access to God is no longer about what we can achieve, but about what Christ has already done.
The writer of Hebrews puts it beautifully:
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence.”
— Hebrews 4:16
The walkway is no longer blocked.
The Lighthouse Still Calls
A lighthouse exists to guide, protect, and lead people home. Even when the way feels restricted, its light still shines.
God has not withdrawn His presence.
He has not moved further away.
He has made the way nearer than ever.
If we feel distant, it is not because the gate is locked — but because we’ve forgotten it was opened.
An Invitation, Not a Barrier
The image reminds me that faith is not about standing at a distance, staring down a closed path. It’s about stepping forward in trust, knowing that through Jesus, access has already been granted.
“Through Him we have access to the Father by one Spirit.”
— Ephesians 2:18
The gate has been opened.
The way is clear.
And the invitation still stands.
A Short Prayer
Lord, when I feel distant or blocked, remind me that through Jesus the way to You is open.
Help me step forward in faith, trusting in Your grace.
Amen.
