Faithful in the Small Things
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.”
Luke 16:10
It’s easy to want more.
More recognition. More opportunities. Better gear. Bigger platforms. And we often want it now.
We live in a world that celebrates the finished photograph but skips past the years of learning, waiting, failing, and trying again. We see successful photographers and social media influencers and assume it happened quickly, almost effortlessly. What we don’t see are the early mornings, the missed shots, the seasons of obscurity, and the quiet persistence when nobody was watching.
Scripture reminds us that growth rarely looks impressive at first.
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.”
Zechariah 4:10
The Small Beginnings
In photography, no one starts by creating masterpieces. We begin with simple cameras, limited knowledge, and a lot of mistakes. We learn how light behaves, how to wait, how to notice details others overlook. Most of the growth happens in the small, unseen moments — taking photos for no audience, practicing composition, developing film that may not even turn out.
Faith works in the same way.
Jesus taught that faithfulness starts small and grows through obedience.
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.”
Luke 16:10 (NLT)
God often calls us to steward what we already have before giving us more.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.”
1 Peter 4:10
Faithfulness Before Favour
We want the wide-angle view — the big picture, the finished result. But God often gives us the narrow frame first. A small task. A quiet season. A single step of obedience.
In photography, you don’t skip the process and get a finished print. Film must be exposed, developed, scanned, and refined. Each step matters. Skip one, and the image falls apart.
God uses process to shape us before He entrusts us with more.
“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
James 1:4
Obscurity Is Not Wasted
Many photographers quit because no one is watching yet. But those early, hidden seasons are where skill is built and vision is formed. The same is true spiritually.
God sees what others don’t.
“Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
Matthew 6:4
Our culture measures success by visibility, but God measures it by faithfulness.
“Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.”
1 Corinthians 4:2
Keep Shooting. Keep Trusting.
If all you have right now is a simple camera, a small audience, or a quiet calling — don’t despise it. Keep shooting. Keep learning. Keep being faithful.
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
Proverbs 16:3
God is not rushed, and He is never late.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.”
1 Peter 5:6
Be faithful in the little things.
The bigger ones will come — in God’s time.
