This week, I found myself back at Chessington World of Adventures. While wandering through the Sea Life Centre, I was struck by something simple but profound.
As we look into the tanks, we’re given a glimpse into a world we don’t really know — a world that exists all around us, yet lives beneath the surface. It’s familiar, yet completely its own. We can observe it, admire it, photograph it… but we remain on the outside.
We’re close — but not part of it.
Seeing Through Another’s Eyes
Photography does something similar.
It allows us to see the world through someone else’s perspective — through the eye of the photographer. Two people can stand in the same place, look at the same scene, and yet see something entirely different.
Each image reveals not just what was in front of the lens, but how the photographer saw it.
And it reminded me of something deeper:
We all see the world differently — but there is more going on than what our eyes can see.
A World the Bible Speaks About
The Bible tells us there is more to life than the physical world we move through every day. It speaks of a spiritual reality — one that is just as real, just as active, and just as alive.
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:18
For many, the spiritual life remains something observed from a distance — like watching fish in a tank or animals behind bars in a zoo. We catch glimpses through sermons, stories, worship, or the lives of others… but never step into it ourselves.
Not Meant to Be Behind Glass
God never intended for us to merely observe the life He offers.
Jesus didn’t come so we could look through the glass and admire a spiritual world from afar. He came so we could live in it.
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
— John 10:10
The Kingdom of God isn’t a display.
It isn’t behind bars.
It isn’t something reserved for a select few.
It’s real.
It’s present.
And it’s available.
From Observers to Participants
Just as a photograph invites us into the photographer’s perspective, faith invites us into God’s reality — a life shaped by His presence, His Spirit, and His love.
We don’t need to stand on the outside, pressing our faces to the glass, wondering what it would be like.
Through Jesus, we are invited in.
“The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
— Mark 1:15
This isn’t a life we admire from a distance.
It’s one we step into.
One we live.
One we become part of.
An Invitation
If you’ve ever felt like faith was something you watched rather than experienced — something you admired but never fully entered — know this:
God is inviting you deeper.
Not into a display.
Not into observation.
But into real, living relationship with Him.
The spiritual life the Bible speaks of isn’t behind glass.
It’s real.
And you’re invited to be part of it.
A Short Prayer
Lord, open my eyes to the world You are revealing.
Help me move from observing faith to living it.
Draw me into the life You’ve promised, and teach me to walk in Your Spirit every day.
Amen.
A few more photos from my day.
