This weekend was a busy one.
With Christmas fast approaching, I’ve been trying to get as much of my bathroom renovation finished as possible. And because of that, any hope of photography completely slipped away. No sunrise walks, no landscapes, no moments with my camera — just tools, tiles, and a long list of things that needed doing.
It wasn’t glamorous.
It wasn’t exciting.
And honestly, it didn’t feel like the kind of work that “brings glory to God.”
But Scripture reminds us:
“Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
That includes DIY.
Even when the standard isn’t perfect.
Even when the work feels ordinary.
Even when we feel like we’re just trying to get it done before Christmas guests arrive.
God isn’t looking for flawless work — He’s looking for a faithful heart.
And that’s what I tried to give Him this weekend.
Drawn to the Light
After working on the bathroom, I went out for a walk to clear my head.
People have started putting up their Christmas lights — houses glowing, gardens sparkling, colours shining through the dark, wet evenings.
And something struck me…
In the cold, in the dark, in the rain — the light still draws people in.
Families will walk or drive miles just to see Christmas lights.
Children press their faces against car windows in excitement.
We naturally gravitate toward light.
And in that moment, I was reminded:
Jesus is the Light of the World.
(John 8:12)
If people are drawn to lights on houses, how much more should they be drawn to the light in us?
Are We Shining?
As I walked past the glowing decorations, I had to ask myself:
Does my life shine the way Christmas lights do?
Does what I do — even the ordinary things — bring glory to God?
Do people feel warmth, hope, and love when they’re around me?
These are tough questions.
Because if I’m honest, I fail at this more than I get it right.
I get tired.
I get impatient.
I get focused on tasks instead of people.
And sometimes the light in me feels dim.
But that’s the incredible thing about Christmas —
it reminds us that Jesus is the source of our light, not us.
We don’t shine by trying harder.
We shine by staying close to Him.
This Christmas, Be the Light
As Christmas approaches and the world fills with colour, sparkle, and warmth, let’s remember why light matters.
Light brings hope.
Light brings direction.
Light brings comfort.
Light breaks through darkness.
And we are called to carry that light into our families, workplaces, conversations, and everyday moments — even in the middle of bathroom renovations and busy weeks.
So this Christmas season:
Be patient.
Be kind.
Be present.
Be generous.
Be joyful.
Be gentle.
Be the light in the lives of those around you.
Because the world is always drawn to light —
and the brightest Light of all lives within us.
A Short Prayer
Jesus, Light of the World, shine through me this Christmas season.
Help me glorify You in the big things and the small things.
Teach me to reflect Your love in my words, my work, and my everyday life.
Amen.
