Through the Mist: Discovering Who You Are in Christ

This past weekend, I found myself struggling to understand what God was trying to show me. I had gone out early on a misty morning to Cuckmere Haven, hoping to photograph the iconic Seven Sisters cliffs. But when I arrived, they were almost completely hidden in a thick blanket of fog.

Only the very tops peeked through — faint, distant, barely revealing their true beauty.
Still there. Still majestic.
But not fully seen.

We Only See in Part

There are seasons when we struggle to see what God is doing — in us, through us, or around us.
We see only hints.
We catch glimpses of hope, glimpses of purpose, glimpses of who we are becoming… but the full picture feels hidden.

This is nothing new. Scripture reminds us:

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.”
1 Corinthians 13:12

Our vision is limited.
Our understanding is cloudy.
But God is not confused by the fog.

He sees the full landscape of our lives — every purpose, every step, every part of who He is shaping us to be.

The Fog Is Not the End of the Story

As I waited at Cuckmere Haven, the fog slowly began to thin. And as it lifted, the cliffs came into full view — bright, bold, unmistakably stunning.

What had been hidden was revealed.
What was obscured suddenly became clear.

God gently reminder to me when I was going through the photos later.
This is what growth in Christ looks like.

There are parts of our identity in Him that we haven’t yet seen.
Parts of our calling we don’t yet understand.
Parts of His presence we don’t yet recognize.

But the fog doesn’t change the truth.
Just because we can’t see clearly doesn’t mean God’s work isn’t real.

Jesus said:

“You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
John 13:7

We don’t have to see everything to trust Him.
We simply need to keep walking, keep surrendering, keep seeking.

As We Grow, His Glory Becomes Clearer

The more we draw near to Jesus, the more the fog begins to lift in our lives.

The lies lose their grip.
The fears begin to fade.
The confusion starts to clear.

And slowly, the true beauty of who we are in Him begins to emerge.

Scripture says:

“The path of the righteous is like the morning sun,
shining ever brighter till the full light of day.”
Proverbs 4:18

Our journey with Christ is one of increasing clarity — not because we are perfect, but because He is patient.
He reveals things in His timing, in His kindness, and in His love.

You Are Becoming Who God Already Sees

Looking at these images, I felt God whisper:

“What you see is only the beginning.
I see the fullness.
And I am bringing it to light.”

That truth is for you too.

Even if you feel unsure.
Even if you don’t see progress.
Even if life feels foggy and unclear.

God is not finished.
And the beauty He has placed within you will not stay hidden forever.

As Paul writes:

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”
Philippians 1:6

The fog will lift.
And what God has been forming in you — sometimes quietly, sometimes slowly — will one day stand clear and unmistakable.

Just like the cliffs.
Just like the view you were waiting for.

A Short Prayer

Lord Jesus, when my vision is clouded and I struggle to see what You are doing, remind me that You are faithful. Lift the fog in my heart, clear my mind, and help me walk with confidence in the identity You have given me. Reveal Your beauty and Your purpose in my life, and help me trust Your timing. Amen.
