Faith Journey Lessons: God’s Plan and the Roller Coaster of Christian Life

This past weekend, we visited Chessington World of Adventures — a theme park in the UK. As I stood watching the roller coasters twist, turn, rise, and drop, something stirred in my heart.

I felt God gently remind me:

“Your faith journey is a lot like that roller coaster.”

And He’s right. Sometimes the Christian life feels calm and steady, and other times, it feels like you’re being pulled to the top only to drop suddenly — your heart racing, stomach turning, not quite sure what’s coming next.

The Ride Has a Designer

No roller coaster builds itself. Every twist, turn, and loop is designed with purpose — by someone who knows exactly how it will end.

It’s the same with our lives. God, the great Designer, knows every climb, every drop, every sharp turn we’ll face. What feels chaotic to us is carefully planned by Him.

The Bible reminds us in Jeremiah 29:11:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you a hope and a future.”

When you’re on the ride, you can’t always see where you’re headed — but the one who designed it does.

The Safety Bar of Faith

When you get on a roller coaster, the first thing you do is pull down the safety bar. It holds you tight through every twist and turn. You trust it completely, even when you’re upside down.

That safety bar represents faith. It’s what keeps us secure when life’s ride gets wild. We may not always feel in control — but faith reminds us that God is.

Even when your stomach drops and your heart races, He’s still got you. You’re safe in His hands.

The Ups, the Downs, and the Wait

Let’s be honest — some parts of the ride are thrilling, and others are terrifying. Sometimes you’re on the high, filled with joy and excitement. Other times you’re plunging down, unsure if you’ll ever rise again.

And then there’s the waiting — the slow climb to the top where all you can hear is the clicking of the chain lift and your own heartbeat. That’s where patience is tested, and trust is built.

But remember: every climb has a purpose. Every drop leads to a new perspective. God uses both the highs and lows to strengthen your faith and draw you closer to Him.

Enjoy the Ride

When the ride ends, what do we usually do? We laugh. We breathe. And often, we get back in line to do it all over again.

That’s the beauty of faith — it’s not about avoiding the ride; it’s about learning to trust the One who’s in control of it.

So, if life feels like a roller coaster right now — full of twists, drops, and unexpected turns — hold on. God designed this journey. He knows where it ends. And every moment along the way, He’s right there beside you, holding you secure.

“Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me.”
— Psalm 23:4 (NLT)

Final Thought

You might not always understand the ride you’re on, but you can always trust the One who built it. So throw your hands up, lean in, and let God take you on the adventure of faith. The ups and downs aren’t meant to break you — they’re meant to build you.
