Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest

Mark 6:31 is a verse from the New Testament of the Bible, specifically from the Gospel of Mark. It is part of the account of Jesus' ministry and his interactions with his disciples. The verse is as follows, in the New International Version (NIV):

"Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, 'Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.'"

In this verse, Jesus is addressing his disciples. They had been very busy ministering to people, and there were so many demands on their time that they hadn't even had a chance to eat. Jesus recognises their need for rest and solitude and invites them to withdraw to a quiet place to find some rest.

This verse highlights the importance of taking time for rest and reflection, even in the midst of a busy and demanding ministry. It emphasises the value of finding a quiet place to recharge and connect with God.

In the hustle and bustle of life, it's all too easy to keep pushing forward, constantly racing against the clock. But as I've journeyed through life, I've learned the significance of pausing, of finding a moment of respite. It's something I try to make a point of doing whenever I encounter a simple bench.

In our local community, there are many memory benches, each one graced with heartfelt inscriptions in remembrance of a departed loved one. These benches are thoughtfully placed in areas with breathtaking vistas, often in spots where those we remember may have frequently sought peace and quiet.

Sitting on one of these memory benches, overlooking the beauty of nature, I can't help but think of Mark 6:31: "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." These words, spoken by Jesus to his disciples, resonate with timeless wisdom.

God encourages us to spend time alone with Him, to find moments of solitude and reflection. And what better place to do this than on a bench? Here, you can sit in His presence, surrounded by the wonders of His creation, and let the world's demands fade into the background.

In our hectic lives, it's crucial to find our "quiet place" on a memory bench or any serene spot, to seek that communion with God, and to take a break from the relentless pace of life. These benches, bearing the memory of loved ones, serve as a reminder of the need for stillness, reflection, and a connection with the divine. So, take a moment today, find your bench, and allow yourself the gift of rest, reflection, and rejuvenation in the presence of the One who offers solace and peace in the midst of life's whirlwind.
